Winnipeg tourism forecast strong
December 01, 2010
WINNIPEG — Winnipeg’s tourism industry is expected to enjoy healthy growth this year and over the next four years, according to a new report from the Conference Board of Canada.

The board predicts in its autumn metropolitan travel markets outlook released today that Winnipeg will continue to build on last year’s relatively strong performance with a further 2.7 per cent growth this year in the number of overnight visits to the city.

And "the medium-term outlook is even brighter," the board says, "buoyed by the significant expansion of tourism infrastructure planned for the city."

It predicts the number of overnight visits will grow by 2.4 per cent next year, 3.3 per cent in 2012, 2.8 per cent in 2013 — the year the Canadian Museum For Human Rights is expected to open — and 2.4 per cent in 2014.

Canada, by comparison, is expected to see 2.8 per cent growth this year, followed by 2.6 per cent next year, 3.1 per cent in 2012, 2.8 per cent in 2013, and 2.7 per cent in 2014.
