Statement by Senator Stratton on the passing of The Honourable Sterling Lyon, P.C., O.C., O.M., Q.C.
December 16, 2010
Today I join fellow Manitobans in remembering former Premier Sterling Lyon and share in their sadness of this great loss. Sterling was an accomplished man with a strong will. He served our province in many capacities, most notably as Premier of Manitoba from 1977 – 1981. He was also a reporter, a Crown Attorney and a judge on the Manitoba Court of Appeal. He will be remembered as a man of determination with a distinct dedication to public service, as well as a man who successfully fought for the inclusion of the notwithstanding clause in the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. More importantly, he will be remembered as a husband, a father, a grandfather and a friend. |
