Manitoba leads country in new vehicle sales
July 15, 2010
WINNIPEG — Manitoba dealerships got back on track in May, posting the biggest month-over-month increase in new vehicle sales in the country. New seasonally adjusted figures issued today by Statistics Canada show that Manitoba dealers sold 3,728 new cars and trucks during the month, which was an increase of 4.4 per cent from the 3,572 sold in April. The only other province that came close to matching that performance was Prince Edward Island, with a 4.3 per cent improvement. Nationally, sales were essentially flat, climbing by a meagre 0.2 per cent to 126,475 units from 126,194 in April. On a year-over-year basis, Manitoba’s numbers weren’t so pretty, with May’s total down 3.2 per cent from May 2009’s total of 3,851 units. Canada, on the other hand, had a May-over-May increase of 4.3 per cent. Source: Murray McNeill, Winnipeg Free Press |
