WINNIPEG – The Honourable Vic Toews, President of the Treasury Board and Member of Parliament for Provencher, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification; and the Honourable Rosann Wowchuk, Deputy Premier, and Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Initiatives, on behalf of the Province of Manitoba, announced support to help strengthen economic opportunities across Manitoba.

“Through the Community Adjustment Fund our Government is investing in the future of Manitoba,” said the Honourable Vic Toews. “Today we are investing in six projects that will help ensure our communities succeed at this time of economic slowdown and remain prosperous into the future.”

“These six projects represent investments in our rural communities and sustainable agricultural research that will help our economy grow,” said the Honourable Rosann Wowchuk.  “When we invest in new technology and research we expand the opportunities of Manitobans and open the door to many possibilities.”

Federal funding of $7,186,783 is being provided through the Community Adjustment Fund (CAF) as part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan for six projects across Manitoba. The Province of Manitoba is providing funding of $5,057,500.

As part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan, the Community Adjustment Fund (CAF) is a two-year, $1-billion national program that will provide an economic stimulus by supporting projects that create jobs and maintain employment in rural communities.

The fund will provide $306 million over two years to support the most affected western Canadian communities, such as those that are heavily reliant on resource-based industries, for instance forestry, mining, agriculture and fisheries, and communities that depend on the manufacturing industry. Western Economic Diversification Canada (WD) is delivering the fund in the four western provinces.

Today’s announcement continues the important steps the Province of Manitoba is taking to support economic growth by investing $1.6 billion this year into infrastructure to stimulate the economy, create jobs, and renew the province’s roads, schools, health facilities and water treatment facilities.
