Government of Canada supports career development opportunities for youth in Manitoba

DELORAINE, MANITOBA — Youth in Manitoba will benefit from career development activities thanks to support from the Government of Canada. Mr. Merv Tweed, Member of Parliament for Brandon–Souris, made the announcement today on behalf of the Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development.

“In today’s environment, it is more important than ever that all Canadians have the skills and information they need to participate and succeed in the job market,” said Mr. Tweed. “Our government is proud to support programs that benefit both employers and youth.”

Prairie Skills Employment Services will receive $16,970 through the Government of Canada’s Youth Awareness program. This funding will help the organization promote awareness of labour market information and career planning through an annual youth information fair, an annual career day, youth seminars and 12 monthly roundtable discussions.

“We are thankful for the support we received for this project as it will allow us to address specific labour market issues facing Southwest Manitoba,” said Ms. Tracey Raikes, Employment Services Coordinator for Prairies Skills Employment Services. “Participants are provided with labour market information and awareness for career planning along with personal development skill tools. This will give them the opportunity to discover alternative possibilities and options for future employment career plans. ”

The Youth Awareness program is part of the Government of Canada’s strategy to help foster the best educated, most skilled and most flexible workforce in the world.
