Government of Canada Partners with the Canadian Centre for Child Protection for Safer Internet Day
February 08, 2010
In a world of growing technology and increasing access to the Internet we are reminded of the importance of monitoring the safety of children online. Safer Internet Day, which is an international event, was created in 2004 to promote safer and more responsible use of online technology and mobile phones with our youth. On February 8, 2010, the Government of Canada joined the Canadian Centre for Child Protection in Winnipeg to launch a new Internet safety portal. This portal advises parents on getting involved in their children’s online safety. Last year our government announced a renewed commitment to work with our partners through the National Strategy for the Protection of Children from Sexual Exploitation on the Internet. This initiative has played an important role in helping to make sure young people online stay safe and that we take action to crack down on sexual predators. The Government of Canada is investing $71 million over five years to support the National Strategy. |
