Federal Government Invests in Recreational Infrastructure in Carman

Carman, Manitoba - Carman will be able to move forward with the rehabilitation of the Carman Dufferin arena, thanks to the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program, a major job creating investment from Canada's Economic Action Plan.

Today, Candice Hoeppner, Member of Parliament for Portage-Lisgar, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced federal funding for arena renovations that will create jobs in Carman and the surrounding area.

"I'm pleased to announce our Government's support for the rehabilitation of the Carman Dufferin Arena," said MP Hoeppner. "Investments such as this will help put Canadians to work, encourage greater participation in physical activity and use of recreational facilities, and ensure that communities across the West have access to the essential infrastructure we need today and in the future."

Federal funding of $600,000 is provided through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program under Canada's Economic Action Plan.
Renovations to the Carman Dufferin Arena will include the removal and replacement of the arena roof and upgrades to the building. This rehabilitation will improve local recreational facilities for the residents of Carman and the Rural Municipality of Dufferin.

"The Town of Carman and the Rural Municipality of Dufferin are grateful for this funding," said Bob Mitchell, Mayor of Carman, and Shawn McCutcheon, Reeve of Dufferin. "This will improve our two-ice surface facility and make it better for both our residents and visitors. Without this funding we were not sure how we would have been able to make this happen and would have been faced with many difficult decisions."

The Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program, is part of Canada's Economic Action Plan.  RInC will invest $500 million in recreational facilities across Canada over a two-year period. It will provide a temporary economic stimulus that will help reduce the impacts of the global recession while renewing, upgrading and expanding recreational infrastructure in Canadian communities.
