Dominion City, Manitoba - Dominion City will move forward with renovations to the arena and create jobs thanks to funding from the Federal and Provincial governments.

Today, the Honourable Vic Toews, President of Treasury Board and Member of Parliament for Provencher, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, and Infrastructure and Transportation Minister and Member of the Legislative Assembly for La Verendrye, Ron Lemieux, announced funding for the Dominion City Arena.

"The modernization of the Dominion City Arena will ensure our community has access to recreational opportunities for years to come," said Minister Toews. "This investment is another example of how our Government is creating jobs and building the foundation for future growth."

"Improvements to the Dominion City arena will be a welcome addition to the athletes and spectators in this area," said Minister Lemieux. "Investments such as this are important to our government as we look to sustain our recreational facilities for further generations."

The total cost of the project is $20,250.  Funding of $6,750 is provided through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program as part of Canada's Economic Action Plan. The Province of Manitoba is providing $1,000.

Renovations to the Dominion City Arena include upgrading the artificial ice plant, building safety and security features, electrical, outdoor LED signage, as well as upgrades to the dressings rooms.

"The rink is a vital part of the community. This funding helps us keep it operating for everyone to enjoy," said Mike Anstett, Chairperson, Dominion City Recreation.

The Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program will invest $500 million in recreational facilities across Canada over a two-year period. It will provide a temporary economic stimulus that will help reduce the impacts of the global recession while renewing, upgrading and expanding recreational infrastructure in Canadian communities.

Today's announcement continues the important steps the Province of Manitoba is taking to support economic growth by investing $1.6 billion this year, into infrastructure to stimulate the economy, create jobs, and renew the province's roads, schools, health facilities, and water treatment facilities.
