Bison transport wins green transportation award
May 06, 2010
OTTAWA, ON — The Honourable Vic Toews, Minister of Public Safety and Regional Minister for Manitoba, congratulated Winnipeg based Bison Transport Inc. on their receipt of the Green Transportation Award issued by Supply Chain and Logistics Association Canada (SCL). The award, sponsored by Transport Canada, recognizes strong environmental leadership and a commitment to promoting green transportation standards. SCL presented Bison Transport with the award at their annual conference in Vaughan, Ontario on May 4, 2010. “The Government of Canada is proud to recognize Canadian companies whose actions are benefiting the long-term health of our communities and helping to preserve our natural environment,” said Minister Toews. “Bison Transport is a company which has shown a true commitment to reducing air emissions.” The majority of the tractors and trailers in Bison’s fleet are equipped with fuel-efficient tires, transmissions and engines, as well as auxiliary power units to reduce idling and in-cab computers to monitor fuel economy. The company’s drivers are also required to complete a fuel economy course. In addition, the use of long combination vehicles has reduced greenhouse gas emissions from each truck equipped with the technology by 40 per cent, and a new online calculator allows clients to estimate the amount of greenhouse gas emissions from their freight shipment. These measures, combined with others the company has implemented, means its operations are more efficient and benefit the environment. In operation for more than 40 years, Bison Transport Inc. is one of the largest truckload carriers in Canada, offering full truckload service, full service logistics, dedicated fleet operations, yard management and warehousing and distribution. Today, the company operates than 1,000 tractors and 3,000 trailers throughout Canada and the United States. |
