Amadeus Steen Foundation Raises $100,000 for Winnipeg Children’s Hospital
August 27, 2009
Winnipeg, Manitoba – The Amadeus Steen Foundation, a non-profit organization established in 2007, hosted their third annual two day event in Winnipeg to raise funds for the Children’s Hospital. The Foundation was created in memory of Amadeus Steen, late son of the former captain of the Winnipeg Jets, Thomas Steen. The foundation works to raise awareness and monies needed to enhance the lives of families with children facing unspeakable challenges. This year the event raised $100,000 that will be put towards the renovations on the CH4 ward. The two day event consisted of a Gala evening where everyone was encouraged to wear white making it a “White Out”, followed by a golf tournament at Pine Ridge Golf Course. Senator Stratton participated in the Gala Event which took place on Wednesday, August 26, 2009, along with hundreds of others in attendance who were there to support the event and have the opportunity to meet many current and former members of the NHL. Some of the players in attendance included: Thomas Steen, Alex Steen, Bobby Hull, Ian White, Darren Helm, Jordy Douglas, Jim Benzelock, Ulf Nilsson, Neil Wilkinson, Chet Pichard and Jeremy Williams. Prior to the Gala Event players had the honour of taking a tour of the Children’s Hospital to visit with the children and sign autographs. “There is no greater cause than coming together to support the health and wellness of these children who are undergoing procedures such as chemotherapy treatments and transplants,” stated Senator Stratton. “I am proud of the Steen family for coming forward to create this foundation in an effort to raise awareness but more importantly to place a smile on the face of these children”. |
