About Terry
Winnipeg-born (March 16, 1938) Terry Stratton is a representative of Manitoba in the Senate of Canada.  He was educated at the University of Manitoba (Architecture), 1957-1960.

He started out in architecture and worked for many years in that field. This included almost two decades as a managing partner with the renowned IKOY Architects, recipient of five Governor General Awards. He was also a partner of a charter airline company, Airwest Charter Airlines, along with his two brothers.

Senator Stratton has taught at the Red River Community College and has served on the boards of several companies and organizations, including the University of Winnipeg, Manitoba Hydro, and the United Way of Winnipeg. He is currently a National Council Member of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet.

Along the way, he became involved in politics, acting for a time as campaign chair for the Province of Manitoba for the Right Honourable Brian Mulroney, Vice President, Western Canada for the Progressive Conservative Party of Canada, and as co-chair in the election campaign of the first woman mayor of the City of Winnipeg.

In March 1993, Conservative Prime Minister Brian Mulroney appointed Terry Stratton to the Senate of Canada. Since then, he has sat on many senatorial committees, chaired the National Finance Committee, and acted as vice-chair for many others.

In 2001, Senator Stratton was made Opposition Whip in the Senate. In October 2005 he became Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the Senate until February 23, 2006 when he took on the role of Government Whip in the Senate until the 31st of December 2009.

Senator Stratton has three children and six grandchildren.
